WoW! I thought I was pretty much alone in my delemma. I am in a BAD situation. I need some studs for my teeth in order to place bridges in lower and upper teeth. A year ago my own teeth could have stableized the bridges...however, I have Dentical, and they get paid so little, that they will only do ONE thing each visit! Which is once a month. My poor grandfather felt sorry for the pain I was in and paid $1700. to have 8 teeth removed so I could have a surgury on my stomach that was a life or death need. That was a year ago, and what is left of my teeth or infected, broken, unsightly and I can't eat the food I need to, because I can't CHEW! I am told I need 4 tp 6 fake teeth placed so I can have fixed bridges. At $3000. a pc. I won't be able to have that done. My mouth is so painful ALL the time, I have been on antibiotics for over a year now and its all enterferrin with my stomach op. I have thought of just ending things, but I have a beautiful 16 yr. old daughter that I couldn't do that to! I live in Northern California and I have called everywhere I can think of. I need what they call cosmetic dentistry because of the inserts I need to brace the bridges. Whole dentures are not recommended for me because of my gum line is too close to my sinuses? or some such nonsense. I am starving for good food. I now eat oatmeal, yogart and mash potatoes. Please help me or direct me so I can help myself. My credit is not good, but I could pay small monthly payments.I was once known for my smile. I no longer smile. I am disabled. My spine is curving into my vital organs. Maybe they feel it's pointless giving me a beautiful smile when I'm not long for this world anyway. I think they are wrong. No one should have to look like this when there are so many talented dentist out there who can make a difference. If you can direct me, I would most appreciate it and know that karma is certainly there for you!

Chonita I have been thinking about your situation , even though I did not post anything until now. People who judge your character according to the condition of your teeth can be summed up in one word IGNORANT ! The dentist who thought that she could make a 'show' of you and your condition was the MOST IGNORANT OF ALL OF THEM ! It is unfortunate that in our country , people are so hung up on the outside of a person instead of looking to the inside , where the real person is. Many people who have bad teeth , or who , like me , walk with a cane , are automatically labeled as weak , and yes , sometimes mentally impaired too. We have an advantage though. We can weed out the real people in the world from the people who are shallow and narrow thinking .Hang out with people who can see your insides ! Please don't let the truly ignorant of this world stop you from being you. I sincerely pray that you find help with you teeth ,and that you can have a healthy and beautiful smile. Please remember though , that it is up to you whether or not you allow people to make you feel bad about yourself.Don't let the ignorant of this world interfere with your living your life. soulight

Where do I begin? The truth is there are things in my life I'm not proud of and my teeth are number one on the list. I can understand how a small gesture in the form of a smile can impact someones life. My parents were ignorant to the importance of yearly dental check-ups and preventive dentistry. Sure they taught me how to brush my teeth, never flossed and from childhood I grinded my teeth without ever knowing until I was an adult that I should have been wearing a guard at night. Unfortunately by the time I did find out, it was to late. My teeth were severely damaged. So now I am a 52 year old female with a complex and who needs a great deal of dental work. A woman who is depressed and unable to smile among my peers. Some people automatically assume I am a miserable, unhappy and mean person because I don't smile but the truth is I'm to ashamed to smile. Ashamed of what others will think about me or prejudge my character according to the condition of my teeth. I notice when I'm speaking with someone instead of eye contact they stare at my teeth. I remember when I made an appointment with a general practice dentist I had never been to before. She brought everyone in her office, including the receptionist to look at my teeth. You can't imagine how I felt sitting back in that dental chair looking up at those people while they shook their heads and said how unfortunate my situation was and how she could do nothing for me but clean the five teeth that weren't grided down to the nerve. I didn't cry though, at least, not until I got inside the elevator. I won't lie, winning the lottery would be awesome since I live from paycheck to paycheck, but if someone were to ask me what would be the one thing I wish to have that would complete me as a person I would say with certainty beautiful and healthy teeth. Why? For several reasons but the most important one to me is to be able to look at a stranger in passing and smile. Thanks for listening.

I am a 27 year old single mother who has been suffering from periodontal disease since I was about 22. I have done extensive research trying to find an organization that would be able to work with me so that I can get the help I need. Due to my financial situation, I have not been able to take care of this progressing disease. At this point, I am extremely uncomfortable socializing or even going out in public. It breaks my heart, because I feel as a mother, I am compromising my kids lives as well. I don't know what else to do. I live in St. Lawrence County, NY. I have tried contacting alot of the organizations listed on this page also. Please help....

Hello, I am only 50 years old and I have had six strokes ,a disected Aorta surgery to repair some of it,knee replacement surgery,I have recently been diagnosed as diabetic and I almost died last year because of a serious infection in a tooth that became abscessed.I had surgery for that and was hospitalized for almost two weeks. I am a widow and am disabled. I know this all sounds unbeleivable and too far fetched to be true, but I am absolutely telling you the truth. Now maybe because of all of my health problems, my teeth are breaking and two weeks ago my front teeth broke in half. I cannot even leave my home,I look like a monster. I tried to see dentists that take medicare or allow me to make payments and have not been successful. Nobody wants to even see me when they find out I have no insurance or income other than social security. Do you have any suggestions ? Can you help me? Sincerely, Ms. Penny Ingalz
